The ETSC/N supports community groups, churches and other faith groups, civil societies network to strengthen public awareness and out reach regarding the peace process, reforms and the new hope for just peace. Thus we are compelled to address the situation physically and psychologically with the efforts of peace for sustainable holistic development.

In the post conflict situation in Nepal, hopes, expectation and demand of the people and groups at all level have risen to a great height. With the growing practice of direct or indirect involvement in conflict for the protection of one’s own interest, community peace has been disturbed tremendously. Such activities have directly and indirectly influenced the community people towards conflict and have also adversely affected the state of just peace, stable government and good governance in the country. Strikes, inter caste conflict and other conflicting events are its direct outcome.

The emergence of revenge and resentment has seen to be growing among the victims in many areas, since the end of the armed conflict in the country. The transformation in the political scenario is also resulting into growing conflict situation. Every 5 development region of the country consists of conflict affected districts.

Although, in present condition, efforts are being made to maintain the peace agreements between the conflicting parties, situation may grow worse as the problems of the traumatized people are not being addressed. The rural community and conflict affected family do not have easy access to relief and rehabilitation opportunities which is often found to be the issue of constant discussion in the urban areas of the country.

Conflict situation has increased social deviation in the community. Fear, hopelessness, resentment, distrust and revenge have filled the mind and hearts of the people. Due to such negative changes, there exist many groups and elements of both political and apolitical nature that are increasing the gap between the hilly and Madhesi people. Due to this there is increasing number of people who are leaving their house to relocate. Further, although peace agreement has been made between the conflicting parties at national level, there is need for activities for rehabilitation and social integration at community level. Thus, ETSC-Nepal aims to address these needs through its proposed program by mobilizing both the local and external resources to provide support to peace building process.
