The COVID-19 crisis has spread in Nepal as elsewhere instigated by the first and 2nd wave of the new variants of Coronavirus and has reached a level to worry. The serious concern has also been raised by the international communities and media. The Government of Nepal may get compelled to announce a state of health emergency in the country in the near future given that the situation persists like this.
The infection rate has increased to nearly 50% and is increasing day-by-day. The numbers of active infected cases have reached 66,352; while the recovery rate has decreased to 80.6% as of 5th May 2021 which is the highest of all time so far. 3,475 people have died in total; nearly 9,000 cases are reported as COVID-19 infections, with approx. 60 cases of deaths on a daily basis which is quite an alarming situation than ever before.
There have been strict prohibitory orders imposed in 52 out of 77 districts, including in Makwanpur, the capital city of Hetauda,Bagmati Pradesh Nepal. There is lockdown imposed in the district. Most of these prohibitory orders are issued by the local governments within their jurisdictions.
People have got contained at homes with strict restrictions in vehicular movements and air transportation. The sustained political crisis has also aggravated the situation, shifting the priorities of the Governments and political parties to hold power, instead of responding to the pandemic. Everything has closed down in the districts where there are prohibitory orders issued and enacted while this is going to the situation all over the country in the near future.
For the most recent time, the urgent actions needed to be taken include: relief and response to the COVID-19 affected population and potential risk groups. Both preventive and curative measures have an equal urgency.
The aim of the 2nd wave Covid-19 emergency response Program is designed to providing immediate lifesaving assistance directly infected people through local health institution and service provider sector.
